MEAC Announces Weekly Baseball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., March 1, 2021Norfolk State senior Alsander Womak was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. North Carolina A&T State’s Trevor Sheehan and Coppin State’s Darren Hagan were named Co-Rookies of the Week, while North Carolina Central redshirt sophomore Ryan Miller was named Pitcher of the Week.
 
Womack (5-9, Sr., 2B, Waxhaw, N.C.) hit .368 in five games this past week for the Spartans, including a weekend series win over North Carolina Central, scoring seven runs and driving in six. He had at least one hit in each game, including a pair of two-hit games (one at Old Dominion and one against the Eagles). On Monday, he hit a three-run home run against ODU, driving in four runs in that game, and he added a double in Saturday’s doubleheader against NCCU.
 
Sheehan (6-2, Fr., INF, Holly Springs, N.C.) was a combined 4-for-7 in two games against Appalachian State, and in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader, he was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, four RBIs, a double and a three-run home run. He was 2-for-3 in Sunday’s win, scoring a run and driving in another.
 
Hagan (5-11, Fr., OF, Garnet Valley, Pa.) went 5-for-5 against Navy, hitting two doubles, driving in five runs and scoring twice. He tied the Coppin State program record for most hits in a game.
 
Miller (6-3, r-So., RHP, Blandon, Pa.) tossed a seven-inning complete-game shutout against Norfolk State on Saturday, as the Eagles blanked the Spartans 7-0 in the second game of a doubleheader. He scattered four hits and struck out 10 in picking up his second win of the season.
 
Other Top Performers
Tucker Rayburn (Florida A&M) hit two home runs in a four-game series at South Florida.
 
Cody Donnell (Norfolk State) made his first career start against North Carolina Central on Sunday, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs scored, two walks and two stolen bases.
 
Justin Walton (Norfolk State) struck out a career-high nine Eagles on Sunday, giving up just five hits and two runs in the win.
 
Cole Parks (North Carolina A&T State) gave up just two runs and four hits in six innings against Appalachian State to pick up his first win of the season.
 
Luis DeLeon (North Carolina Central) drove in four runs against Longwood, hitting a triple, and had five RBIs and four runs scored in four games for the week.
