NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 22, 2021North Carolina Central redshirt junior Luis DeLeon was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. North Carolina A&T State’s T.J. Ash was named Rookie of the Week, while North Carolina Central redshirt junior Scott Meylan and North Carolina A&T State senior Michael Johnson were named Co-Pitchers of the Week.
 
DeLeon (6-0, r-Jr., UTL, Providence, R.I.) was 4-for-10 (.400) at the plate with a double and a triple in the Eagles’ three-game sweep of Army this past weekend, driving in five runs and scoring three times. He drove in three runs in the second game of the series, and he was 2-for-3 in Sunday’s finale. DeLeon had at least one run scored and at least one RBI in each of the three games.
 
Ash (5-10, Fr., OF, Pleasant Garden, N.C.) was 4-for-11 (364) in a three-game series against College of Charleston, including a 3-for-4 effort with a double and an RBI in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader.
 
Meylan (6-4, r-Jr., RHP, Pittsburg, Calif.) tossed three innings on shutout relief on Saturday against Army, striking out eight of the nine batters he faced – including striking out the side in the ninth inning – to earn the save. At one point, Meylan – who didn’t give up a hit – struck out five batters in a row.
 
Johnson (5-11, Sr., RHP, Lexington, N.C.) tossed seven innings in the Aggies’ season opener against College of Charleston, giving up just one hit and one run while striking out seven.
 
Other Top Performers
Jordan Hamberg (Coppin State) went 2-for-5 with a double against Navy.
 
Justin Walton (Norfolk State) gave up just one hit and struck out four in three innings of work against Old Dominion.
 
Justin Rodriguez (North Carolina A&T State) hit a home run to help the Aggies win the second game of a doubleheader against College of Charleston on Sunday.
