BALTIMORE, Md. -- One thing the Coppin State baseball program is known for is community service and giving back. In keeping with that initative, the Eagles partnered with James Mosher's Little League team during the fall semester.
"One promise I made when I arrived at Coppin was that we would answer the community call and be very accommodating whenever possible," head coach Sherman Reed said.
"I really believe our student-athletes recognizes the benefits of their services, as it allows them to explore their interest while defining possible career paths."
Not only was this partnership rewarding in more ways than one, but the Eagles also helped the little league team win the Baltimore RBI Fall Championship in the 12u (12 and under) Division, besting the Bear Creek Bandits 6-3, on Oct. 23.
"Augmenting the hard work and dedication of the Mustangs' coaching staff, Coppin State University baseball's Fall 2021 Mentoring Program also played a large part in the team's championship success. Sponsored by the Cal Ripken Foundation, the mentorship program was created to help strengthen not only the young players' baseball skills but their character, as well. Throughout the five-week program, the sessions included field practice and character development "chalk talks," led by CSU coaches and players.
"CSU Baseball has worked in partnership with Ripken for five years, and head baseball coach Sherman Reed is proud of the impact that his coaches and players are able to have." (excerpt from

"We are fortunate to have a staff and group of student-athletes who genuinely look forward to giving back to the community for which we are located," Reed said.
