NORFOLK, Va. – It was a strong spring semester academically for the Norfolk State Athletics Department, highlighted by a record 189 student-athletes earning a spot on the Athletics Director's Honor Roll.
 
To be eligible for the AD Honor Roll, athletes must have a 3.0 or better GPA for the semester. Included in NSU's total are 126 athletes who made the Dean's List (GPA of 3.5 or better), 30 of whom had a perfect 4.0 GPA for the spring.
 
The Athletics Department easily topped its previous best of 150 student-athletes on the AD Honor Roll, accomplished during the fall of 2013. This spring's total is also an increase of 63 from the fall.
 
Among NSU teams, football led the way with 51 student-athletes on the AD Honor Roll, with baseball next at 32. Softball (21), women's track & field (18) and men's track & field and volleyball (16 each) were followed by women's basketball (12), men's basketball (9), women's tennis (5), bowling (5) and men's tennis (4).
 
All 16 active members of the volleyball team in the spring earned the recognition. Other teams that had the highest percentages included women's tennis and women's bowling (5-of-6 each), softball (21-of-24), women's basketball (12-of-15) and baseball (32-of-36).
