PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — In the midst of the widespread protests across the country in response to police brutality and racial injustice, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Department of Athletics stands with all of those who are committed to the fight for change.
As a historically Black institution, Maryland Eastern Shore — since its inception in 1886 — has been a catalyst for displaying Black pride and intellectual and athletic prowess.
Our student-athletes support the department's core principles of Scholarship, Sportsmanship and Citizenship. At this time more than ever, we want encourage all within our Hawk Family, our community and under our umbrella to fight for equality for all, to stand up against injustice, to vote and to contribute to a better tomorrow.
The senseless and horrific murder of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and countless others have shown us on a national level that America is at a crossroads. Hawk Athletics pledges to make sure that we stand on the correct side of this movement and ensure that we are doing our best to support our communities and fight for a more just America and a better world.
