NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J., April 7, 2010--Delaware State University senior Kalyn Washburn was honored by the NCAA as the recipient of the first-ever Elite 88 Award for women's college bowling.

The award was presented during the NCAA National Collegiate Women's Bowling Championship Banquet. Jan Gentry, NCAA Assistant Director of Championships, announced the award.

Washburn, an English major, had a 4.0 cumulative grade-point-average.

The Elite 88, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 88 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 88 championships.

Also during the NCAA Championship banquet, Delaware State's Angela Reynolds was named to the National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) All-America Third Team, while DSU's Adriana Jaime earned Honorable Mention recognition.

Delaware State made its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2010.
