MEAC Announces Weekly Baseball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., March 15, 2020—Coppin State senior Justin Banks and Florida A&M sophomore Jared Weber were named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced. Coppin State’s Tim Ruffino was named Rookie of the Week. North Carolina A&T State’s Cole Parks was named Pitcher of the Week.
 
Banks (Sr., Fairfield, Calif.) scored four times and drove in three runs in five games, including a double, two home runs and three walks. He was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a home run in the Eagles’ win over Georgetown, before walking twice and scoring twice in a win over Lehigh. In the series opener against UNC Asheville, he went 3-for-4 with a home run.
 
Weber (So., Wakulla, Fla.) was a combined 9-for-15 (.600) at the plate in four games, driving in three runs and scoring four times. He was 4-for-4 in game two against Jackson State, and in the finale, he went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored, with a double, a home run and a walk.
 
Ruffino (Fr., Bogalusa, La.) picked up the win in his first career start against Georgetown. He struck out eight in six innings, giving up no earned runs and just five hits. At one point, he retired nine straight Hoyas.
 
Parks (Sr., Huntersville, N.C.) tossed seven innings of one-hit ball against Lehigh, striking out a career-high 11 batters and holding his opponent scoreless.
 
Other Top Performers
Aaron Rea (CSU) struck out 10 in seven innings against UNC Asheville.
 
Krew Bouldin (DSU) had three doubles and an RBI in a three-game series against Rhode Island.
 
Mason Brewer (DSU) hit two home runs against Rhode Island, including a grand slam.
 
Josh Hancock (FAMU) struck out nine in six innings against Jackson State.
 
Justin Rodriguez (NCAT) was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI against Boston College.
