Spartan Teams Reach 100% Voter Registration

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State University softball, volleyball, bowling and women's tennis programs have 100 percent of their team members registered to vote prior to Election Day.
 
The Norfolk State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) partnered with the Campus Vote Project to encourage voter education and participation among Spartan athletes through a campaign titled "Spartans Vote" this semester. The NSU SAAC participated in a series of events this fall, including a voter registration drive on campus, education sessions via Zoom call, and a discussion led by led by Dr. Olusoji Akomolafe, political science department chair at NSU.

Siera Jones, Volleyball: "I am voting because I want to see change in my community."
 
Kevin Mayers, Track & Field: "I am voting because I want to see real, meaningful change in my country."
 
Armani Franklin, Women's Basketball: "I am voting because I believe in a better financial future for everyone."
 
Mike Pyers, Baseball: "I am voting because I want my children's future to be bright."
 
Gabby Vaughan, Softball: "I am voting because I want to see a real change in the world."
 
As with many colleges and universities across the country, Tuesday will be an off day for Spartan student-athletes in observance of Election Day.
