FAMU Baseball Opens NCAA Regional with Loss at Georgia Tech

Box Score

ATLANTA, Ga., May 31, 2019--
Georgia Tech used a couple big late innings to pull away from Florida A&M and win its NCAA Atlanta Regional opener 13-2 on Friday evening at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The Rattlers (27-33) fall to the elimination bracket, where they will face Coastal Carolina on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Georgia Tech, the national No. 3 seed, led 5-0 after the first three innings, but Florida A&M -- which clinched the MEAC title on May 18 by coming out of the elimination bracket and defeating Norfolk State twice -- answered in the fourth with a pair of runs.

After FAMU loaded the bases with no one out following a hit batter, a base hit and a walk, Brett Maxwell hit a sac fly to center field to bring home Willis McDaniel to put the Rattlers on the board. Ryan Coscarella's RBI single later in the inning cut the lead to 5-2.

The game would stay there until the bottom of the seventh, when the Yellow Jackets (42-17) pushed five runs across to open the game up and take a 10-2 lead.

Georgia Tech added three more runs in the eighth.

Seyjuan Lawrence was 2-for-4 at the plate on Friday to lead the Rattlers, and Kyle Coleman -- who tossed two complete games in the MEAC Baseball Championship -- struck out four Yellow Jackets in 5.2 innings of work.
