DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., May 17, 2019--Tucker Rayburn singled home Octavius Moyer in the 10th inning as Florida A&M eliminated Delaware State from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Championship in a wild 9-8 game Friday evening at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
The Rattlers (24-32) stayed to face Southern Division top seed North Carolina A&T State to determine who faces Norfolk State in Saturday’s 1 p.m. championship game. The loser will be eliminated.
Delaware State, the third seed out of the Northern Division, saw its season end at 20-25.
Delaware State scored six runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-1 lead, the big blow a two-run double down the left field line from Tommy Jordan, only to see the Rattlers answer with a six-spot of their own – including a two-run single from Moyer – to take a 7-6 lead after six.
The Hornets took an 8-7 lead in the seventh on a Cole Garey RBI single and Darnell Maisonet scoring on a wild pitch, but FAMU tied it when Rayburn posted the tournament’s only home run to right field an inning later.
Rayburn finished 4-for-4 with three RBIs for the Rattlers, while Moyer had three hits and two RBIs.
Jeremiah McCollum picked up the win by throwing the final four innings in shutout relief.
Cole Garey had three hits for the Hornets.
