Defending Bowling Champion N.C. A&T State Advances to 2019 Final

Updated Bracket

CHESAPEAKE, Va., March 23, 2019—
North Carolina A&T State, the No. 2 seed and defending champion, advanced to the championship match of the 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Championship Saturday afternoon at the AMF Chesapeake Lanes.

The Aggies advanced with a 2-1 victory over top seed Maryland Eastern Shore in Mega Match format.

Sunday’s championship final, played in Baker best-of-seven format, will be played at 12 p.m. and rebroadcast on Sunday, March 31 at 9 p.m. EST on ESPNU.

The Hawks opened the match strong, taking the traditional team game 931-925. Brigitte Jacobs rolled a 209 for Maryland Eastern Shore, while Cayla Hicks – the MEAC Bowler of the Year – added a 194 in the victory.

But the Aggies rebounded, taking Baker pinfall 989-941 before sweeping the best-of-seven round.

The loss sent Maryland Eastern Shore into the elimination bracket; there, the Hawks will face No. 3 Delaware State at 7:30 a.m. The winner of that Mega Match will face the Aggies in the final.

The Hornets eliminated Monmouth in the afternoon 2-1 – taking the traditional team round 863-849 after a rally in the 10th frame and winning the best-of-seven round 4-1.

In the morning session, Delaware State eliminated the No. 4 seed, UAB, by taking the first two games of the Mega Match. The Hornets opened with a 905-851 win in the traditional team game – in which Alexis Neuer bowled a 224.

The Hornets then put away the Blazers 955-909 in the Baker pinfall format to advance to the afternoon match.

Monmouth survived a scare from Howard Saturday morning in the elimination bracket, winning 2-1. The Hawks opened with a 909-830 win over the Bison in the traditional team game, where Camelia Coffman (213) and Kyla Day (200) reached she 200-pin mark.

Howard fought back, taking three of the five games in the Baker pinfall format to take that round 914-884 and force the Baker best-of-seven.

The Bison were tough then as well, leading 2-1 before Monmouth took the next three games to advance to face the Hornets.
