NORFOLK, Va., March 18, 2019—
Coppin State junior Corey Treyes and
North Carolina Central junior Corey Joyce were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Norfolk State’s Dionte Brown earned Rookie of the Week honors, while
Norfolk State senior Jonathan Mahoney was named Pitcher of the Week.
Treyes (5-9, 180, Jr., West Covina, Calif.) hit .733 (11-for-15) in four games this past week in the leadoff spot and was a key part of the Eagles’ three-game sweep of Maryland Eastern Shore to open MEAC play. For the week, Treyes had a.789 on-base percentage, hitting two doubles, walking four times and swiping three bases. He recorded four multi-hit games – including three three-hit efforts – and he scored eight times.
Joyce (6-1, 190, Jr., Lexington, N.C.) had a Friday for the record books, going a program-best 6-for-6 with four RBIs in the series opener against Bethune-Cookman – including a three-run bomb, his third of the season. The Preseason Player of the Year was 9-for-10 at the plate for the week, including a 3-for-4 effort with an RBI, a walk and a stolen base in a midweek win over Campbell.
Brown (5-7, 170, Fr., Smithfield, Va.) was 5-for-12 at the plate in four games this past week, recording at least one hit in each game. He drove in two runs, both in a series sweep of Delaware State, and he stole four bases for the week and scored four runs. For the week, Brown slugged .500 and had a .500 on-base percentage.
Mahoney (6-8, 250, Sr., Woodbridge, Va.) threw a complete-game shutout in the series finale against Delaware State, going the distance for the first time in his career. In addition to not allowing a single run, Mahoney went the entire outing without issuing a walk, and he struck out six while scattering six hits.

Matt Day (CSU) hit a home run against Maryland Eastern Shore and scored seven runs in four games.
Aaron Rea (CSU) struck out 11 batters in six innings of four-hit, one-run ball.
Josh Barr (FAMU) struck out four in seven innings of shutout ball against Savannah State.
Kaycee Reese (FAMU) drove in five runs and scored six times in four games this past week, driving in at least one run in all four games.
Jared Weber (FAMU) had two doubles and four RBIs in four games this past week.
Ethan Chavis (NCAT) struck out five in 8.2 innings of work this past week, recording a 1.04 ERA.
Ryne Stanley (NCAT) scored three times and batted .454 (5-for-11) for the week.
Donte Wade (NCAT) was 4-for-12 this past week with an RBI and two runs scored.
Austin Vernon (NCCU) had six strikeouts in a combined 4.2 innings of relief work.
Alsander Womack (NSU) had four RBIs in a series sweep over Delaware State, going a combined 8-for-12 at the plate in those three contests.
