NORFOLK, Va., March 11, 2019—
Savannah State senior Jalen Atterbury and
North Carolina A&T State junior Dustin Baber were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Coppin State’s Matt Day earned Rookie of the Week honors, while
Norfolk State senior Chase Anderson was named Pitcher of the Week.
Atterbury (5-7, 145, Sr., Decatur, Ga.) batted .692 (9-for-13) in a three-game series at Norfolk State, driving in five runs, scoring twice and stealing five bases. He had multiple hits in all three games, including a 4-for-6 effort in the finale – a game in which he drove in four runs, scored twice and swiped two bags. He had a .714 on-base percentage and an .846 slugging percentage in the series.
Baber (5-10, 175, Jr., Babson Park, Fla.) hit .615 (8-for-13) in four games, including a series win over rival North Carolina Central, recording a .706 on-base percentage and slugging 1.000. He drove in four runs and scored seven times for the week, hitting two doubles and a home run while drawing three walks and stealing three bases. He had multiple hits in all four games, and he scored at least once in every game.
Day (6-1, 185, Fr., College Park, Md.) went 3-for-6 at the plate against Charlotte, hitting two home runs and driving in a pair of runs. He was 2-for-3 on Saturday after coming in as a pinch hitter, hitting his second career homer, before getting the start on Sunday and hitting his second home run.
Anderson (5-9, 160, Sr., Norfolk, Va.) struck out a career-high 12 batters in eight strong innings of work against Savannah State, in helping the Spartans pick up their first win of the season. He scattered seven hits and gave up just two runs on the afternoon, and his 12 strikeouts are the most for a MEAC pitcher so far this season.

Justin Banks (CSU) hit two home runs and drove in three in a series against Charlotte.

Darnell Maisonet (DSU) hit a three-run home run and got the win on the mound against Marist.
Robert Shorts (DSU) threw four scoreless innings of relief in a win over UMBC.
Josh Hancock (FAMU) tossed six strong innings in a win over Bethune-Cookman, striking out four.
Octavien Moyer (FAMU) hit two doubles and a home run against Bethune-Cookman, scoring five runs in the series.
Jared Weber (FAMU) scored four times and drove in five runs in a series against Bethune-Cookman.
Dwayne Marshall (MDES) had nine strikeouts and gave up just one run in a 5-1 win over Lehigh.
Tim Luth (NCAT) threw seven innings in a win over North Carolina Central, scattering 10 hits.
Caleb Coyle (NCCU) had two three-run home runs – one against N.C. State and another against North Carolina A&T State.
Ryan Miller (NCCU) struck out five and walked none in a career-high eight innings against North Carolina A&T State.
Stephen Baughan (NSU) drove in eight runs in leading the Spartans to a 3-1 week, including a double and home run against William & Mary.
