NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 18, 2019—Coppin State sophomore Conner Walker and
Norfolk State sophomore Alsander Womack were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today.
North Carolina Central’s Ryan Miller earned Rookie of the Week honors, while
Maryland Eastern Shore junior Dwayne Marshall was named Pitcher of the Week.
Walker (6-3, 250, So., Bothell, Wash.) batted .462 (6-for-13) in Coppin State’s season-opening series win at Savannah State this past weekend. As the Eagles took three of four from the Tigers, Walker drove in a combined four runs and slugged .615, hitting two doubles and stealing a base. He had two multi-hit games – a 2-for-3 effort in the opener on Friday and a 3-for-4 game on Sunday, where he drove in three runs, walked and hit a double.
Womack (5-8, 210, So., Waxhaw, N.C.) went a combined 8-for-14 (.571) at the plate in the Spartans’ season-opening series at James Madison, slugging .929 and driving in four runs. He had multiple hits in all three games, including a 4-for-5 effort on Sunday, in which he drove in three, scored once, and hit his first home run of the season. He also had two doubles and a stolen base on the weekend.
Miller (6-2, 210, Fr., Blandon, Pa.) tossed five scoreless innings against Canisius on Sunday, fanning 11 batters and giving up just two hits in helping the Eagles pitch a combined shutout. He didn’t give up his first hit of the game until the fourth inning.
Marshall (6-2, 210, Jr., Piscataway, N.J.) threw a complete-game shutout (seven innings) in the Hawks’ season-opening win over Longwood – their third win to open a season since 1994. He gave up just four hits in the outing, striking out seven to tie his career high, and he did not allow a single walk.

Corey Treyes (CSU) recorded a win and a save against Savannah State, striking out five in three innings of work.
Arthur Burrell (DSU) went 3-for-4 with an RBI, run scored and stolen base on Sunday against The Citadel.
Willis McDaniel (FAMU) recorded two-hit games against Southern and Arkansas Pine Bluff.
Marcus Brown (MDES) went 2-for-4 in his collegiate debut against Longwood, before going a combined 4-for-6 in Saturday’s doubleheader.
Perry “AJ” Hunt (NCAT) drove in five runs in the Aggies’ three-game sweep of Niagara, including his first home run of the season.
Michael Johnson (NCAT) threw six scoreless innings, striking out four, against Niagara in Sunday’s combined shutout.
Trey Maslin (NCCU) went 2-for-3 with four RBIs in the series finale against Canisius.
Dionte Brown (NSU) had two RBIs, a double and a stolen base in his collegiate debut against James Madison.
