MEAC Bowling Gearing Up for Conference Play this Weekend

All 11 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) bowling programs will be in action this weekend at the at the MEAC #1 meet, hosted by Coppin State at Bowl America in Glen Burnie, Md. This will be the first chance for each team to begin positioning itself to qualify for the 2020 MEAC Bowling Championship.
 
This past weekend saw North Carolina A&T State finish fifth in the Track Kat Klash hosted by Sam Houston State – a tournament that featured five of the top six teams in the nation according to the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Preseason Top 25.
 
Ana Olaya was the highest-finishing Aggie in that event, coming in seventh with a pinfall average of 209. She bowled a season-best 235 over the weekend, which is currently tied for the sixth-highest individual game in the conference this season.
 
Howard, Norfolk State and Coppin State competed at the Virginia Union Invitational, with the Bison leading the way with a fourth-place finish. Coppin State went 6-6 over the weekend and finished fifth in the tournament, while the Spartans opened their season with a seventh-place showing.
 
Coppin State’s Kaylah Castillo earned All-Tournament honors at Virginia Union.
 
Olaya was named MEAC Bowler of the Week, while Norfolk State’s Megan Wheat – the highest-finishing freshman at the Virginia Union Invitational – was named Rookie of the Week.
 
The 2020 MEAC Bowling Championship will be held March 20-22, 2020 at the AMF Lanes in Chesapeake, Va. The top eight teams in the standings after the MEAC #2 meet on Feb. 21-23 will qualify for the championship tournament.
