NSU's Womack Selected to College Baseball Freshman All-American Team

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State freshman second baseman Alsander Womack was named Wednesday to the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's Freshmen All-American Team, the organization announced.

Womack is NSU's first player to receive the distinction since pitcher Devin Hemmerich in 2014.

Womack started 48 of NSU's 49 games in his rookie season and was a force at the plate. He batted .314 (third on the team) with five home runs and team highs of 31 RBIs and 13 doubles. He also stole 13 bases in 17 attempts.

Womack was a four-time MEAC Rookie of the Week selection, tied for the most of any player in the conference. He tied for sixth in the MEAC in doubles, ranked eighth in slugging percentage (.486) and ninth in total bases (90). Womack recorded 15 multi-hit games.

Womack was one of three players from HBCUs to receive the honor, along with Jackson State pitcher Nikelle Galatas and Coppin State shortstop Derek Lohr. The entire team can be found here.
