Coppin's Lohr, McIlwain Earn All-ECAC Baseball Recognition

DANBURY, Conn. – Coppin State's Derek Lohr and Nazier McIlwain were both named to the All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Baseball Team, it was announced by the league office on Thursday afternoon. Lohr and McIlwain both earned Second team recognition from the ECAC, the first Eagles to receive All-ECAC honors under head coach Sherman Reed.
 
A freshman shortstop from Bothell, Wash., Lohr was a First Team All-MEAC selection and named the conference's Rookie of the Year after leading the league with a .362 batting average, including a whopping .434 mark in conference games. A two-time MEAC Rookie of the Week and an All-Black College Nines selection, Lohr also tallied nine doubles and 18 RBI while drawing 22 walks. Lohr finished the season with 14 multi-hit games, including 4-hit performances against Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State, along with six multi-RBI games.
 
McIlwain took home All-MEAC honors for the second straight season after receiving Third Team recognition as a sophomore in 2017. A junior first baseman from Passaic, N.J., McIlwain led the Eagles in hits (53), doubles (13), home runs (2), RBI (41), walks (25) and sacrifice flies (7) while hitting .349. McIlwain also had a team-high 15 multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI games which included a 5-for-5, four RBI effort at Delaware State. In conference play, McIlwain finished with a .351 average while leading the team with eight doubles and 21 runs batted in. The smooth-swinging lefty also had an impressive streak of reaching base safely in 22 straight games. 
 
The 2018 season was a historic one for the Eagles, who won the Northern Division title for the first time in 22 years. CSU's 21 wins matched a program record (2005) and its 18 wins in conference play shattered the old school record of 13 (1996).

Coppin then went on to defeat Florida A&M in the MEAC Tournament before falling to eventual conference champion North Carolina A&T State and Bethune-Cookman.
