NORFOLK, Va., May 14, 2018North Carolina A&T State junior Dawnoven Smith was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Norfolk State junior Chase Anderson and North Carolina A&T State redshirt senior Josh Bottenfield were named Co-Pitchers of the Week.
 
Smith (6-1, 215, Jr., Jacksonville, N.C.) was key in the Aggies taking three of four from Florida A&M this past week and winning the Southern Division regular-season crown. He hit .438 (7-for-16) for the week, driving in 12 runs and scoring eight times – while also boasting a 1.125 slugging percentage and .550 on-base percentage. Smith hit three home runs – two in Monday’s make-up game – and two doubles during the week, and he hit safely in all four games.
 
Anderson (5-9, 160, Jr., Norfolk, Va.) shut down a Jackson State squad that had 30 wins and was batting better than .300 as a team. He tossed seven innings of one-run ball, scattering seven hits and striking out six while walking just one in the Spartans’ 2-1 victory.
 
Bottenfield (6-2, 170, r-Sr., Concord, N.C.) had four relief appearances this past week, tossing six shutout innings in helping the Aggies take three of four from Florida A&M and win the Southern Division regular-season crown. Bottenfield gave up just four hits, striking out three, and he picked up his first two wins of the season as North Carolina A&T State closed out the regular season with back-to-back victories.

Tyler Norris (B-CU) struck out seven in eight innings of one-run ball in a win over Savannah State.
 
Brian Davis (FAMU) had six RBIs in three games, including four in a 3-for-4 effort with a double and two home runs in a 7-6 win over North Carolina A&T State.
 
Thomas Nicoll (FAMU) struck out five in 6.2 innings in a win over North Carolina A&T State.
 
Evan Holland (NCCU) went 2-for-4 with a double against Davidson.
 
Devin Sweet (NCCU) set the school record for strikeouts in a season (87) after fanning five in a win over UNC Asheville.
