NCCU's Valichka Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central senior infielder Andrew Valichka has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball Team for District 3 as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

District 3 is comprised of schools within North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia, and Valichka joins a list with 10 other student-athletes.

"Andrew represents exactly what a student-athlete should be," NCCU baseball head coach Jim Koerner said. "He has worked extremely hard, both in the classroom and on the field, and has excelled in both venues. I'm very proud of his accomplishment. He's earned it."

Valichka has maintained a 4.00 grade point average during his time at NCCU while majoring in behavior and social sciences, and has been named to the Dean's List at NCCU, as well as the Commissioner's All-Academic List within the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).

Valichka batted .276 this season and started all 52 games that the Eagles played, while driving in the third-most RBI in the MEAC with 38 on 12 doubles and five home runs. He also finished the season top-10 in the MEAC in runs scored with 37, and hits with 54.

The Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball Teams recognize the top student-athletes in the nation for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.

Valichka will automatically be nominated for the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot as a member of the All-District team.
