NORFOLK, Va., March 5, 2018—
North Carolina Central sophomore Carter Williams was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Norfolk State’s Alsander Womack earned Rookie of the Week honors, while
North Carolina Central senior Devin Sweet was named Pitcher of the Week.
Williams (6-3, 200, So., Brown Summit, N.C.) went a combined 9-for-22 (.409) in five games this past week, four of which the Eagles won, driving in 11 runs and scoring four times. He had home runs against Duke and Iona, and he opened the three-game set against the Gaels with four RBIs on Friday. For the week, Williams also had a double and two triples.
Womack (5-9, 225, Fr., Waxhaw, N.C.) batted .455 (5-for-11) in a three-game series against Hofstra, including a 2-for-5 effort with three RBIs in the series finale on Sunday – including his first collegiate home run, a three-run shot. He also had a pair of doubles over the weekend.
Sweet (5-10, 195, Sr., Greensboro, N.C.) struck out 11 batters, the third-most in a single game in North Carolina Central program history, and gave up just four hits in 7.2 innings against Iona.
Other Top Performers
Toby Hoskins (MDES) had four strikeouts each against La Salle and Lafayette.
Ryan Rotondo (MDES) had a 3-for-4 day with three RBIs in a 12-4 win over Lafayette.
