Final Bracket
CHESAPEAKE, Va., March 25, 2018 – North Carolina A&T State defeated Maryland Eastern Shore 4-1 on Sunday afternoon to claim the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Championship at the AMF Chesapeake Lanes.
The Aggies claimed their fifth MEAC title overall and first since 2004.
In a rematch of the 2017 final, the defending champion Hawks took the first game in the best-of-seven Baker series 189-173. But North Carolina A&T State rebounded in the second game, tying the match at a game apiece with a 181-159 victory.
NCAT carried that momentum into the third game, overcoming a mid-game stretch in which Eastern Shore had four consecutive strikes and closing out the game strike-spare-spare-spare to win 202-188 and take a 2-1 lead.
After the Aggies won the fourth game 182-152, the two teams put on a stellar display of bowling in the fifth game. The Hawks recorded five strikes in their last six frames, but the Aggies closed the frame with seven straight strikes to win the game and take the match.
Ana Olaya, the MEAC Rookie of the Year, was named Outstanding Performer of the tournament, while Kim Kearney was named Outstanding Coach.
Joining Alaya on the All-Tournament Team were teammate Brianna Boze, Brittany O’Connell and Jacqueline Rhoda of Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State’s Elizabeth Burkholder.
With the win, the Aggies claimed the MEAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. The field will be announced via live stream on NCAA.com on Wednesday, March 28 at 4 p.m. EST.
