MEAC Set to Host 2018 Bowling Championships

NORFOLK, Va., March 19, 2018—The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will host the 2018 MEAC Bowling Championship this Friday through Sunday, March 23-25, at the AMF Chesapeake Lanes in Chesapeake, Va.

Delaware State, Maryland Eastern Shore and Morgan State qualified for this year’s tournament out of the Northern Division, while North Carolina A&T State, Florida A&M and Norfolk State earned championship slots from the Southern Division.

This year, the champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Bowling Championships.

Delaware State has clinched the Northern Division regular-season title for the second straight year by virtue of a 20-4 mark in conference play. The Hornets, who are ranked No. 6 in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Poll, are a MEAC-best 61-24 overall.

Defending tournament champion Maryland Eastern Shore went 18-6 in MEAC play this season and was ranked No. 8 in the latest NTCA poll.

North Carolina A&T State finished atop the Southern Division for the fourth straight season with a 14-4 conference record, finishing ahead of Florida A&M and Norfolk State. Both North Carolina A&T State (No. 17) and Norfolk State (No. 21) are ranked in the most recent NTCA Coaches Poll.

Only the top three teams from each division are eligible to compete in the championship tournament. Bethune-Cookman (1-17 MEAC), Coppin State (2-22) and Howard (9-15) were eliminated from postseason play.

The tournament begins on Friday with a qualifying round of traditional play to determine seeding. The action continues on Saturday with teams competing in a best-of-seven Baker series in a double-elimination bracket format.

The 2018 MEAC Bowling Championship will conclude on Sunday with the championship final at 12 p.m. The championship final will rebroadcast on ESPNU on Sunday, April 1 at 9 p.m.
