NORFOLK, Va.--Chris Dickerson doubled and hit a two-run home run as the Norfolk Tides took a 7-0 win over Norfolk State in the teams' annual exhibition game on Tuesday night at Harbor Park.
The seventh meeting in eight years between the teams attracted a crowd of 4,566 fans to the ballpark of the Baltimore Orioles' Triple-A affiliate, which included a large number of public school children for Norfolk Public Schools Day.
The Tides scored a run in each of the firsts two innings and three more in the third. Dickerson doubled and scored on a wild pitch in the first. In the second, Michael Choice was hit by a pitch and later scored on Paul Janish's sacrifice fly.
The Tides scored three runs on a trio of hits in the third. Chris Johnson and Chance Sisco hit run-scoring singles and Choice hit a sacrifice fly. Dickerson, who was the only Tide with more than one hit, added a two-run homer in the fourth.
Alec Asher pitched three scoreless innings, striking out four to get the win for the Tides.
The Spartans, who were out-hit 7-2, got singles by third baseman Justin Burrell and outfielder Troy White. Freshmen Quenten Thomas and Tyler Morgan each pitched three innings for the Spartans. Thomas struck out one and Morgan three against the minor league club. Defensively, the Spartans did not make an error.
