Hawks Continue Hot Streak, Defeat Mount St. Mary’s
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — The Maryland Eastern Shore baseball team led wire to wire Wednesday and the offense pounded out an efficient nine runs on 11 hits as the Hawks defeated Mount St. Mary’s by a score of 9-2. The win improves the team’s record to 8-19.
The Hawks’ pitchers also earned their stripes today, going nine innings and giving up just two unearned runs.
Sophomore Toby Hoskins got the win in what was his most effective outing of the season. He went 4 2/3 innings, surrendering just two baserunners along with five strikeouts. Freshman Xavier Czepiel and sophomore Jordan Turner (Baltimore, Maryland) were both solid in relief for the Hawks.
On the offense, eight of the nine players in the lineup collected hits, with junior Jordan Martin and freshmen Tom Summers and Zach Mills tallying two hits each. Sophomore Jamison Trower led the club with three runs batted in.
Maryland Eastern Shore will resume conference play Saturday with a four game weekend series at Coppin State. There will be a doubleheader on both Saturday and Sunday.

Florida A&M Falls in Extra Innings to North Florida
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Ospreys scored three runs (one earned) in the top of the 10th inning as Florida A&M (18-10, 8-1 MEAC) fell to North Florida (19-12, 1-2 A-SUN) by a score of 9-6 at Moore-Kittles Field on Wednesday.
The Rattlers were holding a 6-4 lead with one out in the ninth inning, before Corbin Olmstead’s two-run home run tied the game at 6-6. In the bottom of the ninth inning, FAMU had Marlon Gibbs on third base with no outs and also the bases loaded with one out, but was unable to get the winning run home.
Florida A&M had 11 hits on the day, which marked its’ 17th game this season with 10 or more hits. Brian Davis paced the Rattler offense going 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Gibbs was 2-for-6 at the plate with two doubles and two RBI. Jacky Miles, Jr. also added two RBI.
FAMU reliever Hunter Fillingim (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season after allowing one run in 2/3 of an inning of work. Fillingim didn’t allow a hit, but walked what proved to be the go-ahead run.
UNF reliever/DH Corbin Olmstead (3-0) picked up the win after working the final two scoreless innings of relief. Olmstead had two strikeouts and one walk, while allowing just two hits.
The Rattlers next travel to North Carolina A&T State this weekend to wrap up the first half of the MEAC schedule. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 9 beginning at 1:00 p.m., with the series finale on Sunday at 1:00 PM.

Hornets Plagued By Miscues In Loss To Explorers
DOVER, Del. --- La Salle took advantage of mistakes in a 4-2 win over Delaware State at Soldier Field. The Hornets committed four errors and had two passed balls, resulting in each run by the Explorers recorded as unearned.
Delaware State pitchers struck out 12 La Salle batters, but the Hornets also fanned a dozen times in the contest.
DSU returns to MEAC North play with a three-game series against Division co-leader Norfolk State this weekend. The Hornets and Spartans will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. and wrap up the series with a single game on Sunday at noon. Delaware State and Norfolk State each sport 5-3 MEAC records entering this weekend. The Hornets are 2-0 against the Spartans this season, winning 9-5 and 5-3 in Norfolk, Va., on Mar. 19.

N.C. Central Chases Records in Win over Virginia State
DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University combined to hit four home runs as the Eagles bolted past Virginia State University 14-4 on Wednesday, April 6 at the Durham Athletic Park.
The four team home runs for NCCU (15-17) is the second most in the modern era after the Eagle belted five in an 18-9 win over Morehouse on Feb. 18, 2007.
Carlos Ortiz led the way with a banner day crushing two homers, with the first being a three-run jolt in the first frame putting the Eagles up 3-0. VSU (3-22) held a spark in its bats as well as Stephen Brown ripped a solo shot to left in the second to trim the deficit to 3-1.
Outside of the power hitters for NCCU, Thomas Prospero went 2-for-3 at the dish with a walk, a double and stolen base, and a team-high four runs scored.
The Eagles will head on the road next to UNC Asheville this weekend for a three-game series, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 9.
