SAVANNAH, Ga.- Former Savannah State pitcher Kyle McGowin is putting together the pieces of making his dream come true—to pitch in the major leagues.
The right-hand pitcher is currently ranked No. 13 on the Top 100 Los Angeles of Anaheim Angels' Prospects Countdown for the 2016 season.
Playing with the Arkansas Travelers, McGowin had some strong outings to close out the 2015 season in the minors and earned himself a trip to the Angels Spring Training roster to begin this season.
He is beginning the 2016 season in Double A, but a strong start could move him quickly to Triple A.
In 2013, McGowin was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year after ending the regular season with an ERA of 1.49 in 96.1 innings pitched and a 12-1 record. He led the MEAC in strikeouts (111) and wins (12).
McGowin was the third Savannah State baseball player to be drafted. In 2003, Jeff Urgelles was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 26th round. Clay Cleveland was also picked up by the Reds in the 2003 draft, going in the 39th round.
