Rattlers Win 10th Straight, Splits Doubleheader at Savannah State
SAVANNAH, Ga. – Florida A&M (13-6, 4-1 MEAC) won it’s 10th straight game, but split the doubleheader at Savannah State (6-14, 1-1 MEAC) 7-2 and 2-1 at Tiger Field on Saturday.
Senior Ricky Page struck out a career high six batters in the game two loss, while starter Danny Rodriguez (3-0) earned the win in game one after he pitched a season long seven innings and allowed two unearned runs on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
Page (1-1) pitched a complete game in the loss and allowed two unearned runs on six hits with the career-high six strikeouts and one walk. Dylan Dillard (2-for-4), Brian Davis (2-for-3) and Jacky Miles, Jr. all had multi-hit performances in game one, while Ryan Hutson went 2-for-3 in game two.
Tiger starter Trevor McKenna (1-2) suffered the loss in game one after allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits in 6.2 innings of work. McKenna had six strikeouts and two walks.
Savannah State game two starter Ryan McCranie (1-1) had a solid outing as he allowed just one run on four hits with two strikeouts and one walk in a complete game win.

Wildcats Sweep Doubleheader from N.C. Central
DURHAM, N.C. – Michael Cruz delivered three home runs, while starting pitchers German Hernandez and Tyler Norris picked up wins to help Bethune-Cookman to a doubleheader sweep of North Carolina Central in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) baseball action Saturday afternoon at Durham Athletic Park.
Bethune-Cookman took the first game by a 13-4 count, while the Wildcats won the nightcap on the strength of an 11-3 decision.
Junior designated hitter Michael Cruz delivered two home runs, and starting pitcher German Hernandez went six strong innings on the mound to help Bethune-Cookman take the opening game of Saturday’s doubleheader at North Carolina Central, 13-4.
In earning the win, Hernandez went six innings on the hill for B-CU, allowing three runs on eight hits and striking out one with four walks issued. He upped his record to 3-1 on the year, avenging his lone loss last weekend at Florida A&M. Krull tossed three innings, striking out two and allowing a run on three hits.
The loss went to NCCU’s Dandridge who evened his record at 2-2 on the campaign. He was tagged for six runs on six hits in 4.2 innings worked. He fanned seven Wildcats and walked four.
The B-CU offense was paced in the first game by five Wildcats posting multi-hit performances, including Middleton with a 3-for-5 outing, adding two RBI and scoring a pair of runs. Bond was also 3-for-5, adding a RBI and two runs of his own.
In the second game, Bethune-Cookman sophomore Tyler Norris went the distance on the mound in a seven-inning game in the second game of a doubleheader at North Carolina Central on Saturday, as the visiting Wildcats took down the Eagles, 11-3 and collected the conference doubleheader sweep at Durham Athletic Park.
Tyler Norris registered his third quality start of the year in helping the Wildcats take both games of a MEAC doubleheader.
Scalzo took the loss for the Eagles, dropping his record to 1-3 for the season, as he went 4.1 innings and allowed six runs (five earned) on five hits. He struck out four batters and walked two.
Bond led the B-CU offense with a 3-for-4 showing, allowing him to finish 6-for-9 on the day. He added a RBI and a run. Quinn was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs driven in, while scoring once himself.

Kyrstian Negron Leads Eagles to MEAC Road Win at UMES
PRINCESS ANNE - Freshman pitcher Krystian Negron tossed a complete game leading the Eagles to a 3-1 victory in their MEAC opener on the road against Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday, March 19th at Hawks Stadium.
In game two Maryland Eastern Shore came from behind with three late runs downing the Eagles 4-3. Coppin State led 3-0 after the second inning but UMES battles back for the win at home.
Coppin State’s (3-14, 1-1) Negron picked up his first collegiate victory striking out four Hawks (5-14, 1-1) while only surrendering four hits in game one. At the plate, junior infielder Bryant Miranda hammered out three hits, two runs and two stolen bases. Senior outfielder George Dragon had two hits along with a pair of RBIs.
Pitcher Aaron Rea went six innings, struck out two batters, and walked only one Hawk in game two. Relief pitcher John Kraft was inserted into the game in the final inning and was issued the loss for the Eagles.
Freshman Nazier McIlwain knocked in a two-RBI single to right field giving the Eagles an early lead. Erik Crossman and John Kraft each scored for Coppin State after both drew walks at the plate. In the second inning Colin Dower led off with a single to right field and crossed home plate on a wild pitch.
The third game of the weekend series between the Eagles and Hawks has been postponed from Sunday, March 20th to a later date that has not been determined yet. CSU heads to Towson on Tuesday, March 22nd for a single game scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
