Spartans Garner Notice in Baseball America MEAC Preview

NORFOLK, Va. – Baseball America, one of the nation’s leading media outlets covering baseball at all levels, prominently mentioned several Norfolk State players in its 2016 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference preview, which was released Friday.

Senior pitcher Matt Outman was selected as BA’s preseason MEAC Pitcher of the Year and rookie Chase Anderson was tabbed the preseason Freshman of the Year. Outman, the 2015 MEAC Pitcher of the Year, has already earned preseason conference Pitcher of the Year recognition by the MEAC coaches and sports information directors. He went 8-2 with a 3.12 ERA last season, leading the MEAC in victories and strikeouts (85 in 75 innings pitched). Anderson, a freshman out of Norfolk’s Granby High, is expected to contribute both on the mound and in the infield as a freshman this season.

In addition, four Spartans were listed among BA’s top 10 2016 Major League Baseball Draft prospects from the MEAC: junior pitcher Devin Hemmerich (No. 2), senior pitcher Robbie Hiser (No. 3), Outman (No. 7) and junior outfielder Denathan Dukes (No. 9).
