MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASEBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. Carlos Ortiz of North Carolina Central was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Norfolk State’s Matt Outman earned Pitcher of the Week, while teammate Kevin Granger earned Rookie of the Week.

Ortiz (OF, 5-9, 197, Jr., Cleveland, Ohio) registered a .467 batting average (7-of-15), including seven hits and five runs, with two home runs, two doubles and nine RBIs, in a four-game series against Niagara. Defensively, he recorded four putouts, without an error.

Outman (LHP, 6-3, 215, r-Jr., Chesapeake, Va.) pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing six hits and striking out seven, in a 6-0 win over the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Granger (Util., 5-9, Fr., Richmond, Va.) totaled three hits, including one double and two RBIs, in four games. He stole his first two career bases against Lehigh

Jalen Atterbury (SSU) notched two hits and five runs, including three RBIs, in four games against North Florida and Alabama A&M.

Mendez Elder (SSU) went 6-of-13, with six hits and four runs, including three RBIs and four doubles, in three games against Alabama A&M.

Toby Hoskins (UMES) posted a 4.50 ERA, while striking out four over six innings, in a win over Saint Peter’s.

Alex Mauricio (NSU) registered his first career home runs and had a career-high five RBIs, against Lehigh.

Trevor McKenna (SSU) recorded six strikeouts in 7.0 innings, in a win over Alabama A&M.

Joseph NiCastro (UMES) posted a .400 batting average (2-for-5), including two hits and two runs, in a 17-5 win over Saint Peter’s.

Jamison Trower (UMES) finished with six hits and three runs, including four RBIs and five doubles, in four games.
