Bethune-Cookman Wins Series Against Murray State
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Tyler Norris pitched five strong innings on Sunday afternoon, while seven different Wildcats registered hits to help Bethune-Cookman to a 3-2 series-clinching victory over Murray State in non-conference baseball action inside Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
For the second consecutive game, strong starting pitching was the key for fifth-year head coach Jason Beverlin and the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman. Norris spun a gem Sunday, stymieing the Racers bats for the better part of five innings.
Norris (1-0) grabbed the win for the Wildcats, while Donté Lindsay tossed the final innings for the save.
B-CU was sparked by seven batters with a hit each, using two RBI from Brandon Wilkes and one from Clay Middleton.
Bethune-Cookman returns to the diamond Tuesday, Feb. 23, traveling to face UCF in Orlando, Florida. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Florida A&M Falls To Marshall In 12 innings
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After taking a 6-4 lead into the eighth inning, Florida A&M (2-1) tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning but fell 11-9 to Marshall (1-2) in 12 innings on Sunday at Moore-Kittles Field. Ben Ellzey, Alec Wong and Dylan Dillard each had three hits on the day. The Rattlers totaled a program best 54 hits in the three-game series.
Rattler starting pitcher Ricky Page worked the first 4.2 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and four walks. Kenny McDonald (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) in the top of the 12th inning.
Marshall reliever Sam Hunter (1-0) earned the win after working 1.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Joshua Shapiro earned the save after closing out the 12th inning.
The Rattlers have a pair of midweek games this week as they travel to Jacksonville (5:00 PM) on Tuesday and Auburn (4:00 PM) on Wednesday.

Hawks Drop Back-and-Forth Battle In Series Finale
LEXINGTON, S.C. — In a back-and-forth game, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) baseball team battled the Fairleigh Dickinson (FDU) Knights in an attempt to continued their undefeated start. Both teams traded the lead in the middle innings, but the Knights came up with a little more offense late to win the game, 7-5, salvaging a game in the series and denying the Hawks a sweep.
UMES (2-1) was also denied its first 3-0 start since the 1973 season.
Freshman Zach Mills made his Hawk debut as the starting pitcher, and earned a respectable five inning performance, giving up two earned runs with five strikeouts. He and the opening weekend rotation of senior J.P. Black and sophomore Toby Hoskins combined for 15 innings and accumulated an ERA of 3.60 and played a big role in setting the tone for the series win.
On the offensive side, sophomore Jessey Valdez went 2-for-4 in today’s finale to close out the opening weekend with a .417 average. Junior Dallas Culotta homered in his first start today, and the team delivered six extra base hits overall. The Hawks also swiped four bases, led by senior Connor Breslin with two.
The Hawks return to the diamond next weekend, with a tournament in Richmond, Virginia, where they will face the Saint Peter’s Peacocks and the Richmond Spiders. Games will begin Friday at 10 a.m. at Pitt Field on the University of Richmond campus.

North Carolina Central Falls in Series Finale to Morehead State
DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University threatened the lead in the late innings, but ultimately were unable to get the critical runs home as NCCU fell 4-2 to Morehead State on Sunday, Feb. 21 at the Durham Athletic Park.
Alex Dandridge only allowed three hits over five full innings, but he was saddled with the loss, and Aaron Leasher fanned eight batters on his way to the win.
NCCU heads on the road to High Point on Tuesday, Feb. 23 before returning to the DAP for a four-game set with Niagara University beginning on Friday, Feb. 26.

Lehigh Sweeps Spartans on Opening Day
NORFOLK, Va. - Lehigh scored seven runs in the final two frames in the first game, then used a four-run third inning to pull away in game two to complete a season-opening sweep of Norfolk State, 10-3 and 7-2 on Sunday afternoon at Marty L. Miller
In the opener, Michael Parmentier (0-1) took the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) in four innings of work. Mark Washington, the third Lehigh pitcher, earned the win with 2.2 scoreless innings of relief.
Denathan Dukes, Roger Hall and Ismael Herrera had two hits each in the first game for NSU.
In the second game, Peter Moore (1-0) took the win for the Mountain Hawks with 3.1 hitless innings of relief. Moore and starter Kevin Boswick did not allow NSU a hit after the first inning.
Chase Anderson (0-1) was saddled with the loss in his NSU debut. He allowed five runs, four earned, in 2.1 innings in the nightcap.
Syeed Mahdi and Angel Rosario had the hits for NSU in the nightcap. Hall walked three times.
The teams conclude their series on Monday with an 11 a.m. matchup.
