CSU's Miranda selected to the FCSL All-Star team

BALTIMORE – Coppin State University junior Bryant Miranda was named to the 2015 Florida Collegiate Summer League All-Star team. He will play second base and represent the South in the 12th annual all-star game to be played on Tuesday, July 7 at historic Sanford (Florida) Memorial Stadium. The game begins at 7:00 p.m.

Miranda was selected to the team by the six Florida League head coaches, as well as the league staff. The All-Star teams are split into the “North” (DeLand, Leesburg, Sanford) and “South” (Altamonte Springs, Winter Garden, Winter Park). Each team consists of two catchers, six infielders, five outfielders and nine pitchers.

A second-team all-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) selection this past spring for the Eagles, Miranda plays for the Winter Garden Squeeze. He was named Winter Garden’s Player of the Week on June 8.

The Florida League All-Star Game is widely considered one of the premier sporting events in Central Florida, routinely drawing crowds of more than 1,000 people. The All-Star game begins with a scout showcase. The top pro prospects will run, hit and throw in front of scouts representing nearly every Major League Baseball team. (The showcase is not open to the public).

Miranda was one of four Coppin State players to finish with at least 30 hits during the 2015 season. Miranda had 31 hits and drove in 18 runs. Both marks tied for second on the Eagles. He also had nine multi-hit performances, scored 19 runs and slugged a pair of home runs.

Miranda's most memorable offensive outburst occurred during a 7-7 tie against Towson on April 14. He was 3-for-5 with a career-high four RBIs. Also during that game, Miranda hit a home run. He also had a three-hit effort, which included two doubles, against Army on March 7. His season-best hitting streak was five games from March 17-22 in which he had eight hits over that span. Miranda also hit a home run against Norfolk State.

Miranda also had two hits and a RBI to help Coppin State defeat Maryland Eastern Shore, 6-1 on April 4. In a 5-4 victory over Delaware State on April 11, Miranda doubled and hit a sacrifice fly in his first two plate appearances.

At 5 pm, the gates will open for fans as they find seats for the Home Run Derby, which will start at 6 pm. Two sluggers from each Florida League team will show off their power stroke as a precursor before the night’s main event.
