NCCU's Triplett tabbed Capital One Baseball Academic All-District

DURHAM, N.C. – Junior first baseman Christian Triplett on the North Carolina Central University baseball team has been named to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-District First Team for District 3 as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

Triplett has played in 46 games for the Eagles so far this season including 43 starts and is sporting a .280 average with a team-best 14 doubles. The Wilkesboro, North Carolina, product made big news a couple of weeks ago hitting two of his six homers on the season over the Boston Red Sox’ famed Green Monster wall in left field of Fenway Park. Triplett has 26 RBI and 27 runs scored and had an 11-game hit streak. Defensively, he has only committed one error in 352 chances for a staggering .997 fielding percentage.

The accounting major boasts a 3.76 grade point average. Triplett is a member of NCCU’s Honors Program, is a Chancellor’s Scholar and Dean’s List honoree.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.

The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2014-15 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.

First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month and in early June.
