MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASEBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Delaware State’s Jaylen Zielecki earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday. Norfolk State’s Devin Hemmerich was selected the Pitcher of the Week, while NSU teammate Roger Hall earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Zielecki (1B/LHP, 6-0, So., Stafford, Va.) batted .454 (5-for-11) with five RBI, including three home runs and four runs scored, against Towson and Maryland Eastern Shore. He went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI in a 9-3 win over Maryland Eastern Shore. On the mound, Zielecki registered a career-high 12 strikeouts in 6.1 innings against UMES.

Hemmerich (LHP, 6-0, So., Norfolk, Va.) pitched first-career no-hitter and the fifth in school history in a 6-1 win over Coppin State. He matched a career-high 10 strikeouts in 7.0 innings pitched.  

Hall (IF, 6-0, r-So., Chesapeake, Va.) totaled six hits, six RBI, four runs scored, one double and one triple against VCU and Coppin State. He went 2-for-4, with two RBI and two runs scored, in a 10-0 win against Coppin State.

 

Other Top Performances

Justin Dattilo (UMES) registered five hits, including three doubles, against UMBC and Delaware State.

Denathan Dukes (NSU) totaled five hits, including one double and one triple, against VCU and Coppin State.

Jordan Martin (UMES) batted .333 (5-for-15) with one RBI and one run scored, against UMBC and Delaware State.

Jesse Stinnett (UMES) pitched 8.0 innings, scattering eight hits and fanning six, in a 9-3 win over Delaware State.
