MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASEBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State’s Roger Hall earned the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Player of the Week honors,the conference announced on Monday. Norfolk State’s Matt Outman earned Pitcher of the Week honors while Mijon Cummings of Bethune-Cookman was selected Rookie of the Week.

Hall (SS, 6-0, r-So., Chesapeake, Va.) recorded a .667 batting average (8-for-12), including two doubles and one triple, 11 RBI and four runs, against Delaware State. Defensively, he recorded five putouts and six assists, without an error.

Outman (P, 6-3, r-Jr., Chesapeake, Va.) tossed a complete game shutout, with a career-high 11 strikeouts, in a 21-0 win over Delaware State, improving his season record to 4-1.
 
Cummings (3B, 5-11, Fr., Lutz, Fla.) went 6-for-13 against Florida Atlantic, Miami (Fla.) and Florida A&M. He belted his first career home run, with one RBI and one run scored against Miami.

Austin Garcia (B-CU) drove in five runs in a 7-4 victory over Florida International.
 
Toby Hoskins (UMES) pitched four scoreless innings, while fanning three batters, against Delaware State, Towson and Coppin State.
 
Josh James (UMES) notched three hits, including two doubles, with one RBI and one run in an 8-6 victory over Delaware State.
 
Tyler Norris (B-CU) tossed six scoreless innings, while striking out five, in a 3-2 win against Florida A&M.
 
Carlos Ortiz (NCCU) recorded an extra-base hit in five straight games, including a home run in three consecutive games.
 
Chipper Smith (UMES) earned two victories, with four strikeouts and three runs allowed in 11 innings pitched.

Devin Sweet (NCCU) matched a team-high for the season with eight strikeouts in 6.1 innings pitched in a 13-4 win against North Carolina A&T State.
