Coppin Loses to Navy
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – George Dragon and Jack Kraft had two hits each during Coppin State’s 12-7 loss to Navy in a non-conference baseball contest at Max Bishop Stadium Wednesday afternoon.
In lifting his hitting streak to seven games and reaching base for the 21st straight game, Dragon had his ninth multi-hit game with a pair of singles. His first hit of the game, a two-out single in the top of the second inning gave the Eagles their only edge of the contest, 5-4. He has at least one hit in 15 of the Eagles’ last 16 games.
Each of Coppin State’s four pitchers on the afternoon (Jesse Kraft, Yayha Muhammed, Chris Vazquez and Myles Taylor) all recorded at least two strikeouts. The Eagles pitching staff struck out nine Midshipmen (21-9).
Coppin State returns to action Friday when it hosts first-place Maryland Eastern Shore for a single game beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Joe Cannon Stadium.
Baseball Winning Streak Snapped at No. 12 Miami
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Mijon Cummings and Jordan Robinson each registered home runs on Wednesday night, but it was not enough as Bethune-Cookman fell to No. 12 Miami, 13-3, in non-conference baseball action inside Mark Light Field at Alex Rodriguez Park. The loss for the Wildcats ends the team’s season-long four-game winning streak.
Lindsay took the loss for the Cats, falling to 0-4 on the campaign. A total of seven pitchers were used on the mound for B-CU on the night, each giving up an earned run.
The Bethune-Cookman offense was led by Cummings’ 2-for-3 showing at the dish, while Austin Garcia finished 2-for-3 as well. Garcia’s multi-hit night was his fourth consecutive in that category.
Bethune-Cookman gets back to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action this weekend, traveling to Tallahassee, Florida for a three-game series with the Florida A&M Rattlers at Moore-Kittles Field. The series begins with a doubleheader on Friday, April 3, followed by a single game on Saturday.
