MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASEBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Florida A&M’s Alec Wong earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday. Jesse Stinnett of Maryland Eastern Shore was selected the Pitcher of the Week, while Norfolk State’s Syeed Mahdi and Delaware State’s Lane DeLeon earned Co-Rookie of the Week honors.

Wong (INF, 5-6, Jr., Rockledge, Fla.) notched a .600 batting average (9-for-15), including two home runs and one double, with five runs and four RBI, against Troy and North Carolina A&T State. Defensively, he recorded six putouts and nine assists, without an error.

Stinnett (P, 6-3, So., Madison Heights, Va.) recorded a career-high nine strikeouts in 8.0 innings pitched, while scattering three hits and giving up one run, in a 4-2 win over Delaware State.

DeLeon (P, 6-4, Fr., Pasadena, Md.) registered a career-high 14 strikeouts in 8.0 innings pitched, with four runs allowed, on four hits, in a 4-2 loss to Maryland Eastern Shore.

Mahdi (2B, 5-9, Fr., Odenton, Md.) went 5-for-11 (.455), including two triples and one double, with six RBI and three runs scored in a three-game sweep over Coppin State.

Michael Austin (B-CU) earned two victories, with four strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched, against Florida International and Savannah State.

Charles Dailey (DSU) registered two hits, including one home run, against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Mike Escanilla (UMES) went 2-for-3, including his first-career home run, in a 4-2 win against Delaware State.

Terry Godfrey (DSU) threw a complete-game shutout, while scattering five hits, in a 1-0 victory over George Washington.

Devin Hemmerich (NSU) allowed two runs in 7.0 innings worked, while striking out four, in a 10-2 win over Coppin State.

Ryan Kilmon (NSU) notched four RBI and two runs scored in a 10-2 win against Coppin State.

Carlos Ortiz (NCCU) tallied two hits, including one home run, against Wofford.

Darien Percell (CSU) recorded two hits, including one double, against Norfolk State.

Jordan Robinson (B-CU) went 3-for-5, including one triple, while scoring the game-winning run in a 3-2 win over Savannah State.

Demetrius Sims (B-CU) registered three hits, including one double and one triple, in a 9-2 win against Savannah State.

Kendal Weeks (FAMU) threw five scoreless innings, while striking out six, against North Carolina A&T State.
