Spartans Outlast Coppin State, 12-7

NORFOLK, Va. -
Matt Outman picked up his second straight win with eight strikeouts in six innings, and Norfolk State posted season highs in hits and runs in a 12-7 MEAC win over Coppin State on Saturday evening.

Robbie Hiser drove in three runs and was one of six Spartans with two hits as NSU (7-10, 4-3 MEAC North) ended with 14 hits in the series opener.

The Spartans jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and held off a pesky CSU (1-17, 0-7) team.

Vaas, Herrera, Rosario, Mahdi, Hiser and Kilmon had two hits apiece for the Spartans. Rosario scored three runs and Moore knocked in a pair.

Mendez was 3-for-5 and Percell 2-for-4 for the Eagles.

The teams play a doubleheader starting at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

FAMU Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader over NC A&T on Alec Wong’s Walk-Off HR

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Alec Wong recorded his first two home runs of the season including a game two walk-off home run to lift Florida A&M (10-15, 6-5 MEAC) to a doubleheader sweep over North Carolina A&T (3-20, 1-9 MEAC) by scores of 10-7 & 3-2 at Moore-Kittles Field on Saturday.

Wong had a monster day at the plate as he went 6-for-8 with two home runs, a double, 13 total bases, four runs scored and three RBI in the two games. The Rattler pitching staff only allowed three runs on nine hits over the final 11 innings combined in the doubleheader.

In game two, NC A&T again scored first with a single run in the top of the second inning for an early 1-0 lead. Ordonez singled through the right side with two outs and scored all the way from first as Hunt doubled deep into center field.

Florida A&M and North Carolina A&T will conclude the three-game series on Sunday at Moore-Kittles Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.

Baseball Sweeps MEAC Doubleheader from Savannah State

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman Baseball swept a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader from Savannah State on Saturday inside Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. B-CU earned a 6-3 decision in the opener, followed by a 9-2 win in the nightcap.

In collecting the series victory over the Tigers, Bethune-Cookman moved its winning streak in league play to six games, putting the Wildcats in sole possession of first place in the Southern Division.

GAME ONE RECAP

Bethune-Cookman (8-21, 7-3 MEAC) pounded out 10 hits, while Clint Clymer came out of the bullpen to shut the door on the mound, helping the homestanding Wildcats take a 6-3 win over Savannah State in the opening game of a Saturday twin bill in Daytona Beach, Florida.

GAME TWO RECAP

Senior pitcher Keith Zuniga pitched six scoreless innings for Bethune-Cookman, as the Wildcats completed the doubleheader sweep of Savannah State, 9-2, in the nightcap of Saturday’s MEAC action in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Bethune-Cookman will seek its second consecutive league series sweep Sunday back at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, as B-CU and Savannah State meet in the series finale at 1 p.m.
