Hamrick Homers And Bean Beams But Georgetown Gets Game
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- The UMES baseball resumed its non-conference schedule today in a home bout the Georgetown Hoyas. Despite some strong performances and an early Hawks lead, the Hoyas stormed back to defeat UMES by a score of 8-2.
A pair of freshman helped contribute during the contest. Scott Bean got the start and enjoyed his finest outing in a Hawks uniform. The first-year player went five strong, giving up only one earned run while walking one and striking out four. Another relative newcomer, Quenton Hamrick blasted his first collegiate home run with a smash that made contact with the left field foul pole in the second inning.
Seven Hawks took the mound in the contest, but it was freshman Toby Hoskins who was saddled with the loss, falling to 0-2. The team's record now stands at 6-16 overall.
UMES hopes to get back on track in conference action this weekend, which will be a tough road test against the Delaware State Hornets.
