MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASEBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Florida A&M’s Marlon Gibbs earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday. Austin Robinson of Savannah State was selected Pitcher of the Week, while Bethune-Cookman’s Jameel Edney earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Gibbs (OF, 5-9, Sr., Orange Park, Fla.) registered a .545 batting average (12-of-22), including one double, with nine RBIs and three runs scored, against Mercer and South Florida. Defensively, he recorded 10 putouts, without an error.

Robinson (P, 6-1, So., Evans, Ga.) faced two batters over the minimum in eight innings pitched, allowing two hits and fanning six in a 1-0 shutout victory over North Carolina Central.

Edney (2B, 5-8, Fr., West Palm Beach, Fla.) went 4-of-6 (.667) at the plate, including two doubles and one triple, with four runs scored and two RBIs, in a 16-5 win against North Carolina A&T State. He extended his hitting streak to six games.

Nathan Bond (B-CU) belted his first home run of the season in a 7-4 victory against North Carolina A&T State.

Zachary Brigham (SSU) drove in two runs in a 6-0 victory over North Carolina Central.

Mike Escanilla (UMES) went 4-for-6, with two doubles and five RBIs in a doubleheader sweep of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Roger Hall (NSU) tallied a career-high three RBIs in an 11-7 victory over Delaware State.

Angel Rosario (NSU) recorded his first career multi-hit game with a double and three RBIs in a victory over Delaware State.

Jesse Stinnett (UMES) matched a career-high nine strikeouts, in eight innings pitched, in a 6-3 win against Coppin State.
