Florida A&M rolls past Mercer, 14-2
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida A&M (7-7, 4-2 MEAC) pounded out a season-high 16 hits and a season-high 14 runs to crush Mercer (9-9) 14-2 at Moore-Kittles Field on Tuesday afternoon. FAMU has now won six of their its last eight games. Five Rattlers had a multi-hit game including Marlon Gibbs who went 3-for-5 with a double, four RBI and three runs scored. Kendal Weeks (2-1) had a strong outing on the mound, pitching eight innings and only allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits with two strikeouts for the win.
Jared Walker went 2-for-3 with a run scored, Alec Wong was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, Jeremy Barlow went 2-for-4 with two RBI and AJ Elkins was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Robby Jolley recorded a pinch hit, three-run, home run in the eighth inning for his first hit of the season.
Mercer starter Ryan Askew (2-2) who’s normally in the weekend rotation for the Bears suffered the loss. Askew allowed three runs in the first inning on four hits.
Florida A&M and Mercer finish up the mid-week series on Wednesday afternoon at Moore-Kittles Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM.

NCCU defeats Gardner-Webb in extra innings
DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University received a solid pitching performance from starter Cameron Scalzo before a two-out error allowed visiting Gardner-Webb University to force extra innings, where NCCU took advantage of a Bulldogs’ miscue to score the game-winning run in the 10th inning for a 3-2 victory at Durham Athletic Park on Tuesday.
Scalzo pitched six scoreless innings for NCCU (5-8), allowing just four hits with five strikeouts and no walks. During his tenure, the Eagles plated two runs, the first a solo home run off the bat of Kory Wood in the third inning and the second an RBI single by Eric Kimber in the sixth.
Wood recorded two of the Eagles’ seven hits, while Kimber, Theissen, James Dey, Christian Triplett and Ronald Thompson all hit safely.
Vernon earned the win for NCCU, while Ryan Boelter took the loss for G-WU.
This is NCCU’s first win in the series with Gardner-Webb, as the Bulldogs swept a doubleheader from the Eagles two seasons ago.
NCCU returns to action on Wednesday, March 11, visiting Charleston Southern University in South Carolina for a 4:00 p.m. start.

Bethune-Cookman upended by Jacksonville
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Jacksonville scored 10 runs in the fifth and sixth inning, respectively, to erase an early 6-1 deficit, en route to a decisive 15-6 victory over Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday night at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
With Bethune-Cookman (3-14) holding a 6-1 lead after four innings complete, the Jacksonville Dolphins took advantage of the B-CU bullpen to plate 14 unanswered runs over the course of the final five innings.
The Wildcats return to action Wednesday, March 11, when USF visits Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
