Lee Returns to B-CU Baseball as Graduate Assistant

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman baseball Head Coach Jason Beverlin announced the addition of new member to the Wildcats’ coaching staff on Tuesday (August 26), officially welcoming alumnus David Lee back to the program as a graduate assistant. Lee replaces Keith Morrisroe, who recently earned his Master’s Degree in Transformative Leadership.

“We’re definitely excited to have David on staff,” Beverlin said. “It provides an additional level of stability, with him knowing what we expect and being able to relay that to the players.”

Lee wrapped up his four-year Bethune-Cookman career as an outfielder in 2013, having been a part of a Wildcats senior group that earned three Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championships, with corresponding NCAA Regional appearances. Lee played two seasons of his career under Beverlin.

“I’m very fortunate to be able to come back to my alma mater with the opportunity to earn my Master’s Degree, to coach, to work with the guys and be able to be around the baseball atmosphere again,” Lee said.

A 2013 graduate with his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Lee was a defensive stalwart for the Wildcats, locking in a career fielding percentage of .992. In addition, the Jacksonville, Fla. native racked up 118 career hits, including 22 doubles, four triples and five home runs, batting in 76 runs and scoring 86 of his own. Lee stands out among the programs leaders in base on balls, drawing walks to reach base 92 times and aiding him to a .392 on-base percentage.

“Whether it’s outfield play, base running or hitting, he’ll do a great job teaching all aspects of the game and bring a different perspective, being able to relate to the age of the players as a recent graduate.”

Lee assumes his position as GA effective immediately and will assist the B-CU coaching staff with outfielders and hitters, in addition to administrative duties.

The 2014 MEAC Champion Wildcats are sporting a 38-man roster as the team heads into fall practices, which open on October 11.
