B-CU's Garcia Earns Great Lakes Summer All-Star Honors

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman baseball’s count for players earning summer league honors grew on Monday, as officials from the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League (GLSCL) announced that Austin Garcia has been named to the league’s All-Star Team.

Representing the Licking County Settlers (Newark, Ohio), Garcia is set to play for the North All-Star team in the GLSCL All-Star Game and Scout Showcase on Wednesday (July 16) at Grady’s Field in Xenia, Ohio, located on the campus of Athletes in Action’s World Training and Resource Center.

Although the Settlers rank fourth in the GLSCL standings, Garcia has proven strong at the plate, hitting .317 through 18 games while splitting time between third base and first base, in addition to some outfield appearances early in the season. The LaBelle, Fla. sophomore-to-be has logged three doubles and a triple, racking up 10 runs and nine RBI for Licking County.

For the Wildcats in 2014, Garcia played in 43 games largely as designated hitter, tying for third on the team with 24 RBI through his rookie campaign.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League (GLSCL) is a wood-bat collegiate summer baseball league in the Great Lakes region of the United States, is affiliated with the National Alliance of Collegiate Summer Baseball and comprises teams with college baseball players from around North America. The League is sanctioned and supported by Major League Baseball and the league follows NCAA rules. Many of the teams play in baseball stadiums normally occupied by college teams.
