NSU to Face The Apprentice School on Thursday

NORFOLK, Va. – In lieu of playing Jackson State for its NSU Baseball vs. Hunger event on Thursday and instead of playing an intrasquad contest as previously announced, the Spartan baseball team will instead host The Apprentice School at 6 p.m. Thursday at Marty L. Miller Field in its regular-season finale.

There is no admission fee to the game, but NSU will still be collecting monetary and canned good donations to benefit the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore. NSU will also honor former Spartan baseball greats Eric Crozier, Ron Dillard and Mel Wearing prior to the game as originally planned.

There will be no games played on Friday. NSU will also honor its seven seniors prior to Thursday's game.

Fans who aren't able to attend can donate to the event online at this link<http://www.foodbankonline.org/NewsAndEvents/Events.aspx>.

The game with the Apprentice will serve as the Spartans' final tuneup before next week's MEAC Tournament, which begins Wednesday, May 14 and continues through Sunday, May 18 at Marty L. Miller Field. NSU (18-24) will be the No. 2 seed from the MEAC's Northern Division in the conference tournament.

The Apprentice School (26-11), located in Newport News, is recognized by the NCAA as a Division III program and is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. The Builders recently received a bid to and the No. 4 seed in next week's 10-team USCAA Small College World Series in Springfield, Ill. The Apprentice School has received a bid to the USCAA championships in 15 straight years and finished in the top three seven times, including a 2007 national championship in the event.
