Bethune-Cookman Opens NCAA Baseball Tournament on Friday

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (26-31) learned their NCAA Baseball Championship Regional site destination on Monday afternoon during the ESPNU telecast of the 2014 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship Selection Show, taking a familiar trip to South Florida and the Coral Gables (Fla.) Regional.

The Wildcats will meet the Miami Hurricanes (40-17) for the third time this season on Friday (May 30) at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN3.

This season marks the Wildcats’ 16th NCAA postseason appearance and their fourth in Coral Gables. The Wildcats and Hurricanes met twice during the 2014 regular season, defeating UM, 7-3, on March 11, and falling 10-1 on April 2 at Mark Light Field at Alex Rodriguez Park.

Also joining the Wildcats and Hurricanes in the Regional are No. 2 seed Columbia Lions (29-18), the Ivy League champion, who will meet the No. 3 seed Texas Tech Red Raiders (40-18) of the Big 12 Conference at 2 p.m. on Friday to open the Regional competition.

The 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletics Conference (MEAC) champion, the Wildcats last made an NCAA Regional appearance in 2012 at the Gainesville (Fla.) Regional, facing site host Florida and College of Charleston. Bethune-Cookman has earned a conference title and NCAA Regional bid in eight of the last 10 seasons.

All games at the Coral Gables Regional will be televised on ESPN3 or the WatchESPN app on smartphones and tablet devices, either live or on tape delay. Links to the broadcasts will be provided, when available, on www.B-CUathletics.com.
