MEAC Announces Baseball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Delaware State senior Cameron Cecil earned the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday.  North Carolina Central’s Terry McNabb was selected Pitcher of the Week, while Norfolk State’s Justin Burrell earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Cecil (INF, 5-9, Sr., Gloucester, Va.) batted .455 (10-for-22) during the week, while scoring eight runs against UMBC, Towson and Norfolk State.  Cecil belted a grand slam, a triple, and a career-high six RBIs in a 19-10 win against Norfolk State. Defensively, Cecil registered 34 putouts.

McNabb (P, 5-10, Sr., Davidson, Saskatchewan) pitched a complete-game shutout in a win over North Carolina A&T. McNabb recorded a career-high nine strikeouts, while only allowing three hits.

Burrell (3B, 6-2, Fr., Newport News, Va.) batted .353 (6-for-17) on the week, driving in eight and scoring six times against Coppin State and Delaware State. Burrell knocked in a career-high tying three runs in the last two games in the series against Delaware State.

 

Other Top Performers: 

Stephen Bull (UMES) went 8-for-18 with two doubles and scored three runs against UMBC and Coppin State. 

Ross Cardwell (NSU) recorded eight RBIs on six hits against Coppin State and Delaware State.

Carlos Ortiz (NCCU) batted .368 against Virginia State and North Carolina A&T, recording two doubles and six RBIs.

Eric Sams (BCU) batted .500 (11-for-22), including two doubles and a home run in games against Florida International, Miami (Fla.) and Florida A&M.

Jesse Stinnett (UMES) pitched a complete game, only giving up one hit and one run, in a 4-3 win against Coppin State.

Carter Williamson (NCCU) went 11-for-18, driving in six runs and scoring nine against Virginia State and North Carolina A&T.

Keith Zuniga (BCU) had a complete game win against Florida A&M, while allowing only one run on six hits.
