MEAC Announces Baseball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Savannah State’s Charles Sikes earned the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday.  Bethune-Cookman’s Montana Durapau was selected Pitcher of the Week, while North Carolina Central’s Carlos Ortiz earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Sikes (RF, 6-4, Jr., Hinesville, Ga.) batted .650 (13-for-20) with 10 RBIs on three doubles and three home runs. He went 3-for-4 with one double and one home run, contributing to five RBIs in a win over North Carolina A&T.

Durapau (P, 5-1-0, Sr., Deltona, Fla.) threw a four-hitter, including, a season-high nine strikeouts against the College of Charleston. Durapau gave up no runs and walked one.

Ortiz (OF, 5-9, Fr., Cleveland, Ohio) went 7-for-15 (.467) with six RBIs on three home runs, including a two-home run game and four RBIs in a win against Florida A&M.

 

Other Top Performers: 

Hector Benitez (SSU) had three hits, scored a run, and drove in a run in a three-game series sweep against North Carolina A&T.

Byron Campbell (UMES) went 2-for-4 with one home run and one triple in a win against Coppin State.

David Hamlett (CSU) registered one double and one home run against UMBC.

Kevin Herlihy (SSU) earned two saves in a pair of wins against North Carolina A&T.  

Cameron Onderko (DSU) went 3-for-4, with one home run and two RBIs, in an 8-5 win against Norfolk State.

Jesse Stinnett (UMES) gave up five hits and one run in win against Coppin State.

Harry Thomas (DSU) surrendered two runs and three hits in a 4-2 win over Norfolk State.

Andrew Vernon (NCCU) recorded a win and a save in a 2-1 series win against Florida A&M.
