UMES' Campbell named NCBWA National Player of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its national players of the week on Tuesday and University of Maryland Eastern Shore senior outfielder Byron Campbell was named NCBWA National Player of the Week. The honor is the second of the week for Campbell after he was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

The senior hit .591 with over a six-game stretch to lead UMES to a 3-3 record. He was 2-for-6 with three RBI in the Hawks’ doubleheader split with Lehigh midweek, before going 11-for-16 (.688) with two homers in four games at Delaware State. It was his effort that helped the Hawks sweep a twinbill with DSU on Saturday, the first from a Hawk outfit versus DSU in over a decade. He reached base in every contest last week, moving his consecutive games of reaching base to 14.

The honor is the seventh player of the week honor for the Hawks over the past two weeks. UMES has now landed four player of the week honors by the NCAA, Collegiate Baseball, ECAC and NCBWA. Also, the Hawks have picked up three MEAC Player of the Week honors in the span.
