MEAC Announces Baseball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State sophomore William Brown earned the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday. Bethune-Cookman’s Montana Durapau was selected Pitcher of the Week, while teammate Zach Olszewski earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Brown (C, 6-1, So., Hanover, Md.) hit .375 (7-for-16) for the week, including a three-run home run to aid the Eagles to a win over Delaware State. Brown had two home runs, three doubles, and seven RBIs in games against Auburn and Delaware State. Defensively, Brown registered 20 putouts.

Durapau (RHP, 5-10, Sr., Deltona, Fla.) earned a 0.53 ERA in 17 innings with nine strikeouts against North Florida and Central Connecticut State. Durapau only gave up four hits and struck out six in a 4-0 win against Central Connecticut State.

Olszewski (C, 6-0, Fr., Bay City, Mi.) batted a .412 (7-for-17) in games against North Florida, Jacksonville and Central Connecticut State. The catcher went 3-for-5, including a triple, an RBI, and a run scored against Central Connecticut State.

 

Other Top Performers: 

Mike Escanilla (UMES) went 11-for-19, including a triple and three doubles in games against Duke, UNC Greensboro and Norfolk State.

Ron Farley (DSU) went 5-for-13, including 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run against Coppin State.

Devin Hemmerich (NSU) allowed just a .117 batting average and earned a save against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Matt McClain (DSU) struck out seven and gave up one run in a 16-1 win against Coppin State.

DJ Miller (DSU) hit .643 (9-for-14) against Navy and Coppin State, including a home run, two triples, and a double.

Jordan Robinson (BCU) went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of runs scored in a 6-3 win over Jacksonville.

Jesse Stinnett (UMES) struck out six and only allowed three runs in his first complete game against Norfolk State.

Jared Walker (FAMU) hit 3-for-4, including a triple and one RBI versus North Carolina Central.
