MEAC Announces Baseball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Bethune-Cookman senior Eros Modena earned the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Thursday.  Bethune-Cookman’s Montana Durapau was selected Pitcher of the Week, while Maryland-Eastern Shore’s Justin Dattilo earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Modena (LF, 6-0, Sr., Miami, Fla.) hit good enough for a .550 batting average (11-for-20) on the week. Modena registered four doubles and drove in six, while scoring two runs. He went 4-for-5 (.800) against North Florida. Modena also had four doubles and a triple, while defensively, the left fielder had three put outs.

Durapau (RHP, 5-10, Sr., Deltona, Fla.) pitched in a pair of outings. Durapau scattered nine hits and only three runs in a 5-3 victory against 13th-ranked Miami. He also struck out nine and sat down 33-of-37 batters he faced.

Dattilo (C, 6-1, Fr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored seven times and drove in six en route to a 3-2 week. Dattilo had a double and went 3-for-5 with one RBI and six putouts in a 14-3 win against Coppin State.

 

Other Top Performers: 

Justin Burrell (NSU) went 3-for-8 (.375), including a double and a triple, while driving in a pair in games against Longwood and Delaware State.

Byron Campbell (UMES) recorded three base hits and two putouts in a 14-3 win over Coppin State.

Ron Farley (DSU) went 4-for-5 with five runs scored in an 18-8 win over Norfolk State.

Austin Garcia (BCU) batted 4-for-12, while scoring four runs and homering once during the week.

David Kimbrough (DSU) went 4-for-5 and scored five runs in an 18-8 win over Norfolk State.

Matt McClain (DSU) allowed one run and fanned five in a 12-1 win against Norfolk State.

Matt Outman (NSU) allowed just three hits and no runs, while fanning three in a 2-1 win over Delaware State.

Jesse Stinnett (NCAT) earned a 2.57 ERA while giving up no home runs and striking out ten.
