Dover, Del. -- Former Delaware State University pitcher Jordan Elliott (Lincoln, Del./Milford H.S.) tossed two shutout innings in his professional baseball debut with the Gulf Coast League Phillies last week.
The team is the rookie level minor league affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, and plays its games in Clearwater, Fla.
Elliott did not allow a run while pitching the fifth and sixth innings in relief in the Rookie League Phillies’ 5-0 loss to the GCL Pirates last week. He gave up one hit and struck out one without allowing a walk.
The GCL Phillies recently signed Elliott to a contract, and he joined the club in Florida. The teams plays its home games at Bright House Field, the spring training home of the Phillies. The GCL Phillies (25-25) are currently in first place in the Gulf Coast League’s Northwest Division.
Elliott ranks as one of Delaware State University’s all-time great pitchers.
He completed his Hornet baseball career this past season as the team’s all-time leader in pitching wins and innings pitched, while ranking third in strikeouts.
In addition, he tied the school record with 10 wins in a season in 2012. He was tops in the MEAC in wins that season.
Elliott was a 2012 All-MEAC First Team selection and a second team pick in 2011.
His career totals include a 28-13 record, 243 strikeouts, 117 walks, 10 complete games, four shutouts and a 4.10 earned run average in 329 innings pitched.
Elliott helped lead DSU to a 73-35-1 overall record and a 43-5 mark in the MEAC the past two seasons, highlighted by back-to-back MEAC Northern Division titles.
He was also a MEAC Academic All-Star and College Sports Information Directors Association Academic All-America nominee.
