BALTIMORE -- Coppin State University baseball head coach Sherman Reed has announced the addition of Jerome Dunning to the coaching staff. Dunning, who has coached at both the collegiate and high school levels, will serve as the Eagles hitting instructor.
"The addition of Jerome allows us to round out our coaching staff," said Reed. "The one area that we have not excelled in during the past two years has been offensively, so Jerome will take on a critical role in our program. His previous experiences professionally and collegiately fits in well with our core needs as we continue to stride toward being a dominate player in the MEAC.”
Dunning spent last season as an assistant coach at Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery, Ala., where he helped lead the team to an area championship.
During the 2010-11 academic year, Dunning served as an assistant coach at Alabama State.
Dunning, who graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 2006, played collegiately at Bevill State Community College, Jackson State and Alabama-Huntsville.
He earned an invitation to the Florida Marlins spring training camp in 2011 and played professionally in the independent league in 2010 and 2011.
Additionally, he participated in the Inaugural HBCU Baseball Classic in 2010 where he was selected as the game's most valuable player.
Dunning earned his degree in physical education from Alabama State in 2012.
